The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for an Administrative Associate II position (Working Title: Lead Parking Attendant) for our State Parking office located in Raleigh, North Carolina. This division reports to the Deputy Secretary of Operations and is responsible for directing and administering the State Government parking system (8,500 spaces) and coordinating the State Employees' transportation and commuting programs in the downtown government complex. Currently the division manages a budget and receipts totaling $2 million. Division employees enforce rules and regulations governing State-owned parking lots, departmental parking space allocations, collect and account for all monies garnered through the assessment of parking fees for leased space and hourly visitor lots, employee commuter programs, transportation / parking signage and the maintenance of State-owned parking facilities for which the Department of Administration is responsible.

The primary purpose of this position is to function as field operations staff to monitor and conduct parking enforcement and maintenance of parking equipment within the downtown Raleigh State Government Complex. This position leads the parking enforcement and control program for all State employee, bus, and visitor lots. Position also provides factual and precise information regarding alternate parking and departmental parking policies. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Patrolling parking lots, enforcing parking policies, issuing citations, having illegally parked vehicles towed from the premises
  • Performing maintenance on parking gates, doors, and other parking equipment
  • Assist customers in the field with parking information and directions and will operate a computerized cash register system to process visitor lot payments, both cash and credit card, when needed
  • Provides backup for the Operations Manager by using opening and closing operations at all parking decks and lots, and providing assignments and oversight of the parking booth attendants employed with State Parking
  • Work is primarily performed during the hours of 6:30 am 3:30 pm or 8:30 am-6:30 pm Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime due to special events. Additional duties as assigned.

  • Must have at least one year of parking experience
  • Customer service experience working with internal and external customers
  • Ability to operate in a professional manner with minimal supervision and direction and be self-motivated
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations in a professional manner
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment such as cell phones, state vehicles, wireless printer, radios, battery chargers, jumper cables and electric vehicles
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, organizational, and mathematical skills
  • Experience utilizing a computerized cash register
  • Public contact skills and/or experience in assisting customers and co-workers
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Adherence to all DOA and Parking Division safety policies and meet OSHA requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
  • Work is subject to hazards and outside environmental work conditions
  • Work requires walking, electric vehicle operation, crouching, sitting and standing
  • NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid NC Driver's License. Out of State applicants must have valid Driver's License and acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience
    OR
    an equivalent combination of education and experience.
