Job Title Line Cook

As a Line Cook at The Little Beet, you will be responsible for ensuring that all of our food is high quality and delicious. This position requires someone who likes to cook, smile, and serve awesome food.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains fast, accurate serviceSeason and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience under the guidance of the ChefTurn or stir foods to ensure even cookingEnsure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stockEnsure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roastersInspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practicesOperates equipment in an efficient and safe mannerEnsures company standards on equipment, facility, and grounds are maintained.Ensures food quality and 100% customer satisfactionWorks as a team member to support other restaurant employees in their dutiesComplete other general cleaning duties such as emptying trash cans and cleaning dining areaEnsures food quality at all timesOther duties as assigned by Chef and/or Sous Chef

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education/Experience: Successful Candidates/Employees of this position must have a High School Diploma or GED. A college or university degree is preferred. In addition, 2 years of cooking experience in a full-service restaurant kitchen environment is also preferred. A person with a desire to grow in the food industry is strongly preferred.

Certifications: A NYC Food Handlers License is not required to be considered for this position but is preferred.

Language Ability: Good communication and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos is necessary. The position also requires the ability to write simple correspondences and the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers. This position requires that you are able to convey information effectively and accurately, vocalize clearly and loudly enough to be heard in a noisy environment and competently speak, read, and write the English language.

Math Ability: The position requires simple math skills: the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: The position requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations and people. You will need the ability to apply general rules of the job to successfully solve problems that may occur without involving the manager. Strong analytical and decision-making skills are needed.

Physical Demands: The position s physical demands require work in a restaurant/kitchen environment with moderate to loud noise levels, varying temperature conditions and possible direct exposure to hazardous substances, such as hot oil. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to react quickly to deadlines, sometimes with little notice. The employee is often required to stand for long periods; walk, bend, kneel, and reach with hands boxes or food containers typically weighing 50 pounds or less, without restrictions.May be required to use stepladder. Finger dexterity is required for use of cash register. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel as needed.

The employee is often required to stand for long periods; walk, bend, kneel, and reach with hands boxes or food containers typically weighing 50 pounds or less, without restrictions.
